We sat down with the founder of ClipDigest, an AI-powered tool that turns your chaotic bookmark pile into a decision log. Instead of saving links and forgetting them, ClipDigest gives every saved link a TL;DR and an AI-suggested action: KEEP, DO, or DROP.
Tell us the origin story. Where did the idea come from?
I had over 200 bookmarks saved across browsers, read-later apps, and note tools. One day I tried to find an article I saved months ago and realized I could not even remember what it was about, let alone where I saved it. That moment of frustration made me think: the problem is not saving links, it is deciding what to do with them.
Most read-later tools are glorified bookmark managers. They help you collect but not decide. I wanted a tool that forced a decision at the point of saving, not weeks later during a “reading session” that never happens.
How did you go from idea to an actual product?
I built the first version as a personal tool in a weekend. It was a simple form where I could paste a link, and it would fetch the page content, generate a summary, and suggest whether I should keep it, act on it, or drop it. I used it myself for a month and found my saved-link backlog went from growing to shrinking for the first time.
That personal experience gave me the confidence that the core concept worked. The next step was building it into something others could use. I focused on keeping the MVP extremely simple: paste a link, get a TL;DR and a decision. No folders, no tags, no elaborate organization systems. Just decide and move on.
You launched as an alpha on betauser.com. How has that early feedback shaped the product?
The alpha testers caught things I would have missed for months. The most impactful feedback was about the AI categorization accuracy. My initial model worked well for technical articles but struggled with news and opinion pieces. Several testers submitted examples where the AI suggested DROP for content they clearly wanted to keep.
That feedback led me to retrain the model with a more diverse dataset and add a confidence indicator. When the AI is less certain, it now says so instead of pretending. Testers also requested the weekly review feature, which nudges you to revisit your saved items. I had not planned it, but it became one of the most-used features.
This is why I believe in beta testing as a product development strategy, not just a launch tactic. Your users will always find the gaps in your assumptions faster than you will. Understanding the feedback loop between users and the product team is essential.
What metrics are you tracking to know if ClipDigest is working?
The primary metric is decision completion rate: what percentage of saved links get a KEEP, DO, or DROP within 48 hours. Before ClipDigest, my own rate was probably under 10 percent. With the tool, alpha testers are averaging over 70 percent.
I also track retention rate closely. A productivity tool lives or dies by whether people come back. Weekly active retention has been encouraging so far, but I know the real test comes at the 30 and 60-day marks. I run cohort analysis on each batch of new testers to see if the onboarding improvements are actually working.
Churn rate is the metric I watch most nervously. Every churned user gets a short exit survey, and the answers have been incredibly valuable for prioritizing what to build next.
What advice would you give to other founders about running an alpha or beta test?
First, be specific about what kind of feedback you want. Do not just ask “what do you think?” — that gets you surface-level opinions. Ask questions like “describe a time the AI suggestion did not match what you expected” or “what was confusing the first time you used it?” Our guide on how to give product feedback mirrors this philosophy.
Second, make it easy to give feedback. I added a one-tap feedback button on every AI suggestion. The easier the mechanism, the more responses you get.
Third, do not wait for a perfect product to test. The whole point of alpha testing is learning. If you are embarrassed by how rough it is, you probably waited too long. Ship the MVP, learn fast, iterate. The software testing lifecycle does not start at perfection.
What is next for ClipDigest?
